Chennai: Mudhal VC, a family office and a Y Combinator-style startup program, plans to invest in more than 20 startups in the next three years with five deals expected to close in the near term. Aravind Suresh, managing partner at Mudhal VC said they have invested in 14 companies, deploying about an average of Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 50 lakh and up to Rs 1 crore. He said they have allocated 25 crore personal capital, with a possible Rs 100 crore raise later. MudhalVC backs startups with initial risk capital to find markets and scale business, allowing them to raise capital from external investors. For startups requiring more capital, it also facilitates larger rounds by roping in other venture capital firms as co-investors. “Currently it is operated as a family office using personal capital to avoid exposing limited partners to early risk.
