In a separate accident, 28 people escaped unhurt after an omni bus crashed into a tree near Mamandur in Chengalpet district. In the first incident, two vans carrying about 20 students from Sacred Heart Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Keelachery were traveling from Sunguvarchatram when the accident occurred near Govindamedu. All 26 passengers and two drivers escaped without injuries.
In the second incident, an Omni bus traveling from Coimbatore to Chennai lost control near Mamandur, hit the road median, and then crashed into a tree. Police said a goods vehicle ahead suddenly braked, after which the two school vans collided. Two female students suffered serious injuries while eight others sustained minor injuries. They were taken to the Tiruvallur District Government Medical College Hospital. Doctors discharged those with minor injuries after treatment. Mappedu police registered a case. Padalam police and highway patrol personnel removed the bus using a crane and arranged an alternative vehicle to send the passengers to Chennai.
