Chennai: DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakanth on Monday welcomed chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s warning against those making derogatory remarks on women but told the assembly that the message should apply to TVK functionaries and supporters as well.
Speaking in the house, Premalatha said women leaders were routinely targeted with vulgar posts on social media. “There is no denying that people associated with the ruling party are also involved,” she said, urging Vijay to condemn such conduct irrespective of political affiliation. TVK general secretary N Anand too said those found to indulge in such acts were removed from the party.
Responding to her, electricity minister CTR Nirmal Kumar said Vijay’s warning applied to everyone in TVK and that the party would act against anyone making defamatory remarks about women. “There may be four accounts in my name and four accounts in your name,” Nirmal Kumar said. Nirmal Kumar said TVK was identifying such accounts and taking steps to block them.
He, however, alleged that DMK supporters had been creating fake social media accounts in the names of TVK leaders and using them to post objectionable content.
He alleged that such fake accounts were being used in the same manner in which Vijayakanth had earlier been targeted.
