DMK, AIADMK will never join hands: Dhinakaran

CHENNAI: AMMK chief T T V Dhinakaran on Saturday said the DMK and AIADMK would never join hands, claiming that efforts had been made to facilitate the return of the Edappadi K Palaniswami-led AIADMK to power with the support of TVK if it failed to form the govt on its own.

Speaking to reporters in Sivaganga after paying tribute to the Maruthu brothers on their death anniversary, Dhinakaran said TVK leaders’ claims that the AIADMK and DMK were planning to join hands were intended to conceal the manner in which the party had formed the govt. “It was not about preventing TVK from coming to power, but about stopping attempts to poach MLAs and teaching the party a lesson,” Dhinakaran said.

He criticised the govt, saying it was performing worse than its predecessor. “It has not even been six months, but the regime has already been functioning with a malicious and vindictive mindset. It is attempting to crush the opposition parties,” he alleged.

We did not seek the DMK’s support,” he said. He said the Left parties could not support an AIADMK govt as that would amount to backing the BJP. He alleged that TVK had lured AIADMK MLAs into resigning by promising them positions and secured the support of other AIADMK legislators during the trust vote. “I was part of the AIADMK-BJP alliance. Subsequently, several leaders, including Palaniswami , had tried to make VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan the chief minister.
