DMK demands judicial probe into Theni jailbreak and dismissal of minister Nirmal Kumar

I Paranthaman

In an official press statement, Paranthaman highlighted that 17 remand prisoners escaped from the Thekkampatti sub-jail in Theni, marking the first mass jailbreak in Tamil Nadu in 31 years.

The inmates staged a fake epileptic seizure before brutally attacking prison guards with iron rods, snatching the keys, and walking right out through the main entrance gate, according to the statement. This commission of inquiry is necessary not just for the Theni incident, but to strengthen the security of prisons across the entirety of Tamil Nadu,” he said. “To prevent future escapes and address threats to statewide law and order, he said that the judicial commission should establish new standard operating procedures (SOPs) and overhaul the prison system using modern technology, artificial intelligence, and international security protocols,” he added.

Paranthaman alleged that the Theni incident was directly caused by the govt ignoring prior official letters warning of a guard shortage and requesting additional staff at the facility. CHENNAI: Following a mass prison break in Theni district, DMK legal wing joint secretary and former MLA I Paranthaman on Wednesday demanded the immediate formation of an inquiry commission headed by a sitting Madras high court judge and the dismissal of prisons minister C T R Nirmal Kumar.

Citing power cuts, overpriced electricity procurement, bribery in the appointment of govt pleaders and the escape of 50 prisoners since the government took office, Paranthaman demanded Nirmal Kumar’s immediate removal from the cabinet. He accused the minister of failing in all his departments.
