K Kamaraj
CHENNAI: Former minister Thangam Thennarasu on Tuesday rejected Congress floor leader Tharahai Cuthbert’s charge that the then DMK govt had denied land on Marina Beach for late chief minister K Kamaraj’s memorial, calling the claim “factually incorrect. ”
Responding to Cuthbert’s statement on Monday that the then DMK govt had denied a place on Marina for Kamaraj’s mortal remains, Thennarasu said the Congress leader had presented “wrong and factually incorrect information” in the House. Naidu had recalled how Karunanidhi personally supervised arrangements overnight at Gandhi Mandapam, braving the rain and working under car headlights, Thennarasu said. Thennarasu cited the assembly records of K Rajaraman Naidu, who was the then leader of opposition, to assert that former chief minister M Karunanidhi had personally ensured Kamaraj was accorded full state honours and made arrangements for his memorial.
