“I am more experienced with dogs than with banking as I have been training dogs for 35 years,” he says. Dhanu Roy spent two decades working as an investment banker, where he managed credit ratings at a major bank. Roy pursued a hobby as a competitive dog trainer, taking his dogs to professional shows and high-level competitions While his colleagues played cricket in their free time.

To address this, Roy founded Right4Paws in 2020, along with his classmate from PSG College, Sameer Achan. In contrast, the MFCD method retains nearly 90% of the original nutrition, say the founders. Currently, the company manufactures 19 different products, including complete meals, nutritional additives for home-cooked food, and dog treats. The company has raised more than `20 crore to date, including founder capital. Most recently, it secured `14 crore from a group of HNIs.

Because they can source 99% of their raw inputs—meat, eggs, and vegetables—from the Kongu region, the founders believe it is an ideal location.

“For a long time, ultra-processed food was the only option available to a pet parent,” says Achan. Its portfolio also includes what it calls “in, on, and around” products, such as specialised shampoos, grooming butter, floor cleaners, and kennel washes designed for pet safety. Achan is also a veteran banker who was running his own boutique investment banking firm at the time. He notes that while general food tech has advanced by leaps and bounds, the pet food industry remains chained to technology from the 1950s. The two founders worked with veterinary nutritionists to develop a proprietary, patent-pending tech called multi-factor controlled dehydration (MFCD). Over the last three years, the firm iterated and improved its products. The method preserves nutrient integrity, bioavailability, and the natural characteristics of each ingredient. Traditional kibble is made using ultra-processing techniques involving high heat and extreme pressure, which damage vital nutrients. The startup plans to expand its manufacturing facility in Coimbatore. They work with suppliers who ensure traceability and meet the quality standards required for exports. Right4Paws is also targeting global markets, beginning with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Europe.
