Chennai: Five minor boys aged between 15 and 17 years were rescued by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Dr MGR Chennai Central railway station on Oct 14 under ‘Operation Nanhe Fariste’, a railway initiative to safeguard children in need of care and protection.
The boys were spotted on platforms 4 and 5 after the arrival of the Ganga Kaveri Express (12670), which runs from Chhapra to Chennai Central, during a routine intensive check by RPF personnel.
During the inquiry, the boys said they had left their homes. None of them was accompanied by an adult family member. Sub-inspector G Saileela and assistant sub-inspector V Jambulingam, along with other RPF personnel, approached the boys and questioned them. The RPF personnel immediately secured the children to ensure their safety and handed them over to Kanchana and Vidhya, supervisors at the Child Help Desk (CHD) at Chennai Central railway station, for further necessary action. The rescue was carried out as part of Operation Nanhe Fariste, an initiative aimed at identifying and rescuing children found at railway stations who may be vulnerable or in need of care and protection. The prompt intervention by RPF personnel helped ensure that the five boys were placed in the care of the Child Help Desk for further assistance.
