Shanmugam told reporters that TVK cannot claim credit for the progress in the case now. “It was the Pocso court judge Padma Shanmugasundaram who was the reason for revival of the case,” he said. “The FIR was registered during DMK govt’s tenure, but why was the investigation not taken up,” he asked Stalin, adding that neither AIADMK, DMK nor TVK has a “genuine interest” in the case. Several police officers, politicians, big shots and middlemen were involved in the case, he said and demanded that the investigation should be handed over to a high court-monitored special investigation team. “The probe should be completed within a specific timeframe,” he said.
