2 university students from Delhi have been arrested following a disturbing report of harassment involving two female students
Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Mukherjee Nagar police station under sections 78 (stalking), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Akansha Yadav said police launched an investigation based on the complaint and traced the vehicle allegedly used in the incident.
The accused, identified as Abhinav and Abhimanyu, are DU students, an official said. Police identified the accused driver as Naman, a DU student, and said two to three persons were accompanying him at the time of the incident. “Abhinav has been arrested from Laxmi Nagar and Abhimanyu from Gurugram, while efforts are underway to nab the others,” a senior police officer said.
The SUV allegedly used in the incident was also seized, while police are searching for the other men who were reportedly travelling in the vehicle. When the women objected, the men allegedly abused them and began following them. The complainant alleged that she and her friend stopped to film the incident, following which the car also stopped and the men attempted to pull them into the vehicle. The accused fled after the complainant’s friend started filming the car.
NEW DELHI: Two Delhi University students were arrested on Friday after two Hindu College students alleged that a group of men harassed them and tried to pull them into a car in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar, police said. She and her friend were walking in the Mukherjee Nagar area on Wednesday evening when a white car approached them and the men inside allegedly passed comments at them, according to the complainant.
Police are also looking into the student’s allegation that she and her friend had approached multiple police stations before the complaint was registered.
