New Delhi: A 24-year-old delivery executive died on Oct 20, more than two weeks after he was allegedly slapped following a dispute over a torn currency note in east Delhi’s East Vinod Nagar. Police have arrested two men in connection with the case.

The delivery executive, Sameer Hussain, had called the PCR around 11.03 pm on Oct 4, alleging that he had been attacked by two residents after refusing to accept a torn currency note as payment. In the video, Sameer said he went to deliver coffee to an elderly customer who took 10-15 minutes to arrange payment before handing him cash, including a torn Rs 10 note. Police later received information that he had allegedly consumed a poisonous substance and was admitted to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital on Oct 5. He died on Oct 20. Police said a medico-legal case was prepared shortly after midnight on Oct 5, and an FIR was registered at Kalyanpuri police station the same day. Following his death, police added Section 108 of BNS, relating to abetment of suicide, to the case. The arrested accused have been identified as Rakesh alias Bunti (30) and Rampal Singh (65).

When Sameer objected, the customer allegedly told him to take it or leave it. During the investigation, Sameer had recorded a video detailing his version of the incident. Sameer offered to cancel the order and questioned why it had been placed if payment could not be made properly. He alleged that the customer abused him before another man arrived and slapped him multiple times. He also alleged that the man mocked his middle-class background.
