New Delhi: A 45-year-old man, who came to Delhi from a village in Rajasthan to attend a wedding, allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a train at Uttam Nagar East Metro station. Authorities received information at 10:12 am about a person jumping onto the tracks. Police initiated inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), which pertains to inquiries and reports on cases of suicide.
This was the second such incident reported at the station in the past four days.
Police said he was undergoing treatment for depression. He came to Delhi to attend his elder brother’s daughter’s wedding, who lives in Uttam Nagar,” said a police officer. An official said, “The metro service was hit briefly as the body was retrieved from the tracks.”
Services on the Blue Line were briefly affected. Upon reaching the spot, it was found that the victim reportedly leapt from the platform and was struck by a train. The man was identified as a native of Rajasthan. “He was suffering from depression for the past several years and was undergoing treatment at RML Hospital. The body was shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. The incident briefly impacted service on the Blue Line.
He visited the hospital on Monday also for treatment.
