New Delhi: A day after issuing a slew of directions, Delhi High Court Tuesday refused to grant an urgent hearing on another PIL in connection with the building collapse in a PG accommodation in south Delhi.
The fresh petition seeks hostel facilities for students in all colleges run by Delhi University, but HC wondered if such directions could be issued “in the interim” and questioned the urgency for seeking immediate hearing. The lawyer said the public interest litigation was being filed in the wake of the PG building collapse in Satya Niketan near Delhi University’s South Campus. The court said such a direction couldn’t be issued while dealing with the plea and pointed out it had already passed an order in another PIL on the same issue Monday. The high court, which termed the incident “most unfortunate”, said such tragedies were a result of inadequate measures employed by Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other authorities, and directed them to double rescue efforts so that lives could be saved.
In the second half, yet another PIL seeking the court’s intervention on the matter was mentioned, but the court repeated its earlier stand that once filed, the matter will come for hearing on its own.
