New Delhi: A man was allegedly robbed of Rs 1.5 crore at gunpoint on Netaji Subhash Marg in central Delhi while carrying the cash he had collected from Kucha Ghasi Ram in north Delhi, police said.
Police are verifying the source of Rs 1.5 crore, its intended destination and the purpose for which it was being transported. In July, two employees of a building material trader were allegedly robbed of Rs 1.5 crore at gunpoint by motorcycle-borne men in Sarai Rohilla area. Police are examining CCTV footage from Netaji Subhash Marg, Kucha Ghasi Ram and adjoining roads to identify the motorcycle used by the suspects and trace their escape route. They are also probing whether the suspects had prior knowledge of the transaction. The incident comes months after similar robberies in the capital.
The victim was travelling on a scooter with the cash when two motorcycle-borne men intercepted him, according to investigators. The suspects allegedly threatened him with a firearm, snatched the cash and fled. Police suspect the accused may have either followed the victim or had prior information about the movement of the cash. Investigators are also questioning the victim to establish the exact sequence of events, including where he was intercepted and whether he noticed any identifying features of the accused or their motorcycle.
Though the robbery took place Monday, the victim approached police Tuesday and lodged a formal complaint. A case has been registered and an investigation initiated.
