Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, is set to lead a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on October 10
The post comes ahead of the CJP’s planned October 10 protest seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. CJP co-convenor Saurav Das and student organisations said on Wednesday that the October 10 mobilisation would be a united protest, with CJP, AISA, AISF and SFI among those backing the demonstration. The CJP had earlier announced the October 10 protest after its October 2 mobilisation at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park.
The groups have said the agitation would continue until their demands on the electoral system are addressed Saurav Das had submitted a formal notice at Parliament Street police station, informing police about the proposed demonstration and saying the organisers would cooperate with authorities. Questioning the need for permission at a designated protest site, Das said the police should focus on maintaining law and order and regulating traffic. Dipke has said the party’s demands include the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, criminal proceedings against him, a halt to the SIR exercise and an independent and neutral process for appointing Election Commissioners.
Thousands attended the Mumbai gathering despite police denying permission.
