An investigation into the alleged suicide of an 18-year-old girl: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: An investigation into the alleged suicide of an 18-year-old girl in her govt school in Shahdara has revealed that the CCTV camera installed at the spot was not working.

Police got a PCR call about a fire in the school and rushed to the spot, where the 18-year-old student was found in a severely burnt condition Saturday. When asked whether CCTV cameras in other areas near the school were working, the officer confirmed that those were working.

The girl’s elder sister told reporters that she and their niece had dropped the girl at the school and she seemed happy. I don’t know what happened after that,” the elder sister said and broke down. He said the girl’s parents had gone to Koderma in Jharkhand, following her maternal grandmother’s death. False information was being spread about her,” he said.

“She was laughing when she went inside. The girl’s uncle raised suspicions of foul play and questioned why her school bag was not checked. “It is impossible that she could have set herself on fire. She was a good student and was not facing any issues. The uncle wondered how the incident could have gone unnoticed despite CCTV cameras and the presence of staff in the school.
