New Delhi: A group of parents of Class IX students studying in CBSE schools in the city have alleged that their wards are yet to receive Part 2 mathematics and social science textbooks for the second semester, raising concerns over disruption to teaching and learning.

They claimed that the Part 2 mathematics and social science textbooks for the second semester are “still not printed and available”, adding that this had created uncertainty for students, teachers and parents. “Teachers need sufficient time to understand the new course content and plan their teaching accordingly,” the letter stated. “If a completely new set of textbooks is introduced, it is essential that the books are available well before the academic session begins and that teachers are adequately prepared to teach the new curriculum,” the parents said, seeking what they described as immediate corrective action in the interest of students.

In their letter, the parents stated the books should ideally have been made available before the start of the academic session to give the teachers sufficient time to prepare teaching material.
The parents further alleged that the Part 2 mathematics and social science books are still unavailable even as the first semester is nearing completion. Because of late publishing and short supply, they have alleged that the entire Class IX textbook set was changed this academic session, and that the Part 1 books were made available only one to two months after the session began.
A parent claimed that “nothing was happening” in classrooms as a result. A senior NCERT official said that the new books will reach everyone within Sept. They claimed that the continued delay affects the ability of teachers to understand the revised curriculum, plan lessons and complete the prescribed syllabus within the academic session. A parents’ group has written to Union education ministry and CBSE secretary raising these concerns and seeking immediate intervention. The parents urged authorities to ensure the immediate printing and availability of the Part 2 mathematics and social science textbooks and provide schools, students and parents with a clear timeline for their availability. Because of this, they said students should not have to suffer. Because of the delay, they also sought adequate guidance and orientation for teachers on the changed Class IX curriculum and textbooks, besides measures to prevent students from suffering academic loss.
Arguing that the issue went beyond the supply of books, the parents stated, “This is not merely a matter of delay in supplying the books. It directly impacts the teaching-learning process and, ultimately, the academic future of our children.
