New Delhi: The Central Empowered Committee (CEC) has informed Supreme Court that DJB has complied with the stipulated conditions and recommended that the water utility body be allowed to replace ageing water pipelines and rehabilitate or construct underground reservoirs at Naraina Vihar and R-Block in New Rajendra Nagar.
The project involves the felling of 40 trees and the transplantation of 20 trees. CEC, which conducted a site inspection on Aug 12, said DJB had fulfilled the conditions laid down in its earlier report. The committee verified that the 40 trees proposed to be felled, 20 trees requiring transplantation or lopping, and 194 trees to remain unaffected had been identified and marked on the ground with distinctive colour bands in the presence of forest department officials. DJB informed the committee that it had planted 600 saplings at Keshopur STP, around 9.3 km aerially from the New Rajendra Nagar reservoir site. It also deposited Rs 28.6 lakh, representing 5% of the project cost proportionate to the area falling within Ridge, into Ridge Management Board Fund on Aug 27, 2025. In a report dated Oct 14, CEC said, “CEC submits that the compliance reported by the applicant may be considered by this hon’ble court for the purpose of granting permission to undertake the proposed pipeline replacement and rehabilitation or construction of underground reservoirs at Naraina Vihar and R-Block, New Rajendra Nagar.
