Chaos erupted outside Akashwani Bhawan as stone pelting marked the CJP’s protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar
Police detain protesters
The incident comes amid heightened security across Delhi ahead of the CJP’s proposed ‘Jantar Mantar 2.0’ demonstration, which seeks Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. More than 1,500 people had been detained from different parts of the national capital ahead of the proposed demonstration, as police stepped up preventive measures. Security was tightened in the area as police personnel moved to control the situation. Delhi Police had denied permission for the protest, citing public safety, traffic management and law-and-order concerns. Authorities had deployed thousands of police and paramilitary personnel across the capital, set up barricades and intensified checks at entry points to prevent unauthorised gatherings. Delhi Police personnel deployed for security were also wearing body cameras to record interactions with protesters and help establish the sequence of events during any confrontation.
NEW DELHI: Stone pelting was reported near Akashwani Bhawan during the Cockroach Janta Party’s ( CJP ) protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday, leaving two police personnel injured, while several protesters were detained.
