New Delhi: Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Thursday threw open its newly developed sports complex in Rohini’s sector 33 for public use. The other sports complex is in Sector 14 in Rohini. Spread over 8.1 hectares, the new complex will bring quality sporting infrastructure closer to the residents of Rohini, Outer Delhi and the adjoining areas of northwest Delhi, DDA said. The facilities represent the beginning of a larger vision for the sector 33 sports complex. The sector 33 site was originally planned to be the third Centre for Excellence for Aquatics. DDA’s sports wing operates 18 sports complexes, four mini sports complexes and three golf courses. At the event, the LG announced the LG Cup for Hockey, to be held from Oct 9-18.

Memberships too will be opened subsequently,” an official said. However, officials said the process would take time, and the swimming pool will be developed in Phase II. “The complex… will provide children and the youth opportunities to develop sporting skills, and adults and families options for fitness and recreation,” said an official. “Since there is a huge demand for a library, the existing facility would be augmented by utilising one upper floor and creating more than 40 additional seats for the benefit of students,” announced Sandhu.

The facility was inaugurated by LG TS Sandhu and is the second such facility in the area. The complex has synthetic tennis and basketball courts, cricket, football-cum-hockey turf, skating, a jogging track, gymnasium as well as yoga and aerobics areas. The LG also laid the foundation stone for an electric vehicle charging station in the complex. “The complex… will start operations on a pay-and-play basis. A fitness centre and a rehabilitation centre will also be made in the near future. A badminton facility is also in the plan. Sandhu also visited the DDA Aarambh library in Rohini, where he interacted with students. DDA operates five Aarambh libraries in Old Rajinder Nagar, Adhchini Village, Dwarka, Rohini and Vikaspuri, providing students a space for reading at an affordable cost. Download the TOI App.
