All preparations should be over at least two days before the festival, she said. Chief minister Rekha Gupta Tuesday directed officials to ensure adequate facilities, security, cleanliness and lighting on all ghats. She reviewed preparations with officials of various departments and agencies. She directed officials to personally inspect the ghats, instead of relying only on progress reports and address shortcomings immediately. As cold weather is expected, officials were asked to provide covered tents at the ghats, wherever required. The chief minister also stressed the need for an adequate number of toilets and changing rooms for women, along with sufficient dustbins and round-the-clock sanitation teams. Gupta directed departments to repair roads leading to the ghats, remove potholes, debris and loose stones, and regularly sprinkle water for dust control. CCTV cameras must be installed at all major and crowded ghats, while fire tenders should be stationed near large gatherings. Delhi Police and traffic officials were asked to coordinate with local organisers on parking, diversions and road closures. Govt will also improve model ghats with welcome gates and LED screens. Officials were asked to coordinate with Indian Council for Cultural Relations to explore the prospect of inviting foreign ambassadors and high commissioners to the celebrations. The meeting also discussed crowd management at railway stations and bus terminals, particularly for passengers travelling to Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. Download the TOI App.
