New Delhi: Delhi High Court Thursday asked Centre’s Grievance Appellate Committee to decide in three to four weeks a plea by SFI against the disabling of its Instagram account.
SFI’s account was disabled by Instagram on July 5, following which it sought a review and raised a complaint with the platform’s grievance officer, as per a plea filed by the organisation. In its petition, SFI said that after Meta Platforms’ grievance officer failed to resolve the issue, the organisation filed an appeal before the GAC on Aug 12. SFI’s counsel said the appeal has been pending beyond the statutory period of 30 days.

Justice Amit Mahajan said he “expected” the committee to decide the appeal in that time. Centre’s counsel said the committee would be advised to dispose of the appeal preferably in three-four weeks. SFI’s petition said that when it tried to access its account, Instagram displayed a notice stating that the account “may be associated with another account that has gone against our rules”. It said Instagram disabled it without giving SFI an opportunity to be heard.
