New Delhi: Delhi Police has launched an investigation after 71 people alleged that a jeweller fled with gold jewellery worth around Rs 7 crore in east Delhi ’s Laxmi Nagar, after allegedly luring customers with an offer to renovate their old ornaments without charging any making fee.
Police said he had been running his jewellery business and was living in the area for around 30 years. Around two months ago, Mohammad approached customers with an offer to convert their old jewellery into new ornaments without any making charges, according to the complaint. Police said the jeweller subsequently closed his shop and locked his house before allegedly fleeing with the jewellery. The jeweller has been identified as Lal Mohammad alias Saleem. Several people were allegedly attracted by the offer and handed over their gold jewellery to him. The customers became suspicious when he failed to return their ornaments and could not be contacted.
