New Delhi: BJP Mahila Morcha workers Tuesday submitted a complaint to the deputy commissioner of police, Central Delhi, alleging Congress workers pushed, manhandled and verbally abused them during a protest Monday outside the Congress headquarters.
Delhi Police stopped the march about 100 metres from the Congress office, but BJP claimed eight to 10 women reached the main gate and allegedly manhandled its workers.
Terming their behaviour “indecent”, she demanded that an FIR be registered in the case. The delegation, led by BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, sought legal action against the Congress workers allegedly identified in a purported video of the incident. The incident allegedly took place when BJP Mahila Morcha workers marched towards the Congress headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg to protest against JNU professor and Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who has been dismissed from the university after being accused of sexual harassment by students. Gihara also sought Akoijam’s expulsion from Congress, alleging the party’s actions contradicted its stated commitment to women’s rights. Police briefly detained the protesters.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Delhi BJP general secretary Mohan Lal Gihara led another protest outside the Congress headquarters, raising slogans demanding action against Congress workers.
