At an inter-state coordination meeting chaired by special commissioner of police (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhary Thursday, officials emphasised that buses violating prescribed emission norms should be stopped at state borders instead of being diverted after entering Delhi, as such diversions contribute to traffic congestion and pollution. Under the prevailing norms, only electric, CNG and BS-VI diesel buses are permitted, subject to specified conditions. Officials decided to install prominent display boards at Delhi’s borders informing motorists that prohibited vehicles, including non-exempt vehicles that do not meet prescribed emission standards, will not be allowed to enter the city. Joint enforcement teams may also be constituted to ensure compliance. To improve coordination among agencies, a dedicated WhatsApp group will be created for real-time sharing of directions and updates on enforcement action. Chaudhary directed all departments to implement the Commission for Air Quality Management’s (CAQM) directions on priority and within stipulated timelines. Vehicle owners have been advised to ensure their vehicles carry valid Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC), wherever applicable. Download the TOI App.
