New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta Monday opened registration for a free solar installation scheme under which eligible households consuming up to 400 units of electricity a month can have rooftop solar systems of up to 3kW installed at no upfront cost.
Centre provides a subsidy of up to Rs 78,000, while Delhi govt has announced an additional subsidy of up to Rs 78,000, taking the total assistance to Rs 1.6 lakh.
“Many Delhi families can generate electricity from rooftop solar panels, promoting clean energy while saving on their electricity bills,” Gupta said while launching the Delhi PM Surya Ghar portal — solar.delhi.gov.in — under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

“If there is any additional gap in the cost of the solar system, it will also be covered through govt assistance,” Gupta said. The scheme also covers group housing societies. “Delhi govt has also increased assistance for installing solar systems in common areas and open spaces of group housing societies.
