Police said the university’s chief security officer forwarded the details to the Vasant Kunj North SHO for information and necessary legal action. In its cumulative assessment, the committee said the incidents should not be viewed in isolation, noting that the defendant’s statement, witness accounts and independent evidence indicated a recurring pattern of inappropriate personal interactions, sexually suggestive conduct and unwelcome physical contact. In a post on X, Akoijam said the university had “lied” that he did not produce any witness. Obnoxious liars!!!!” he said. Calling the allegations against him a “politically motivated complaint”, he said if a legitimate institution has been turned into a “khap panchayat”, discarding the law, norms and rules and regulations, no truth or legitimate conclusion can be arrived at. In his post, he said it was important to “call out the lies and fabrication that form the complaint”. “The rest, my team of lawyers will take care along with the people of my beloved Eramdam Manipur and those students who have understood and shared the process of learning with me as a part of lived experiences,” he posted.
The documents included the dismissal order, JNU’s internal committee’s inquiry report and its detailed assessment and observations. The internal committee examined allegations made by several complainants and assessed witness statements, defence witnesses and other material placed before it. The committee further observed that the conduct had created an intimidating, offensive and hostile learning environment for women students, with inadequate professional boundaries in interactions. Shame! By the way, what is the number of the complainant? Download the TOI App.
