New Delhi: Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in south Delhi’s Mehrauli in June.
The accused allegedly did not kill the girl immediately after sexually assaulting her, according to the chargesheet. He initially planned to bring her back but decided to kill her after fearing that she might inform her parents about the assault.
Police said Singh was waiting near CDR Chowk when he spotted the girl and allegedly abducted her. He took her to Mandi, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her, according to the account recorded by investigators. He then allegedly strangled her, struck her with stones and left her body in a forested area near the Delhi-Gurgaon border. He was arrested later. Singh’s driving licence was found near the girl’s body. On the day the minor was abducted, her father heard cries for help and chased the cab, but in vain. He later provided a key lead by recalling that the vehicle was a white car with a yellow commercial registration plate. Police subsequently traced the vehicle.
Basu Kumar Singh, 25, is the sole accused named in the case. He has been charged under provisions relating to rape, murder and kidnapping, besides sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and other relevant laws.
