JMI hosts National CRE Workshop on Healing Childhood Trauma: The wider industry impact

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

A three-day National CRE Workshop on ‘Healing Childhood Trauma: Strength-Based Approaches and Rehabilitation Practices concluded on September 18 at Jamia Millia Islamia. The workshop was organised by the Centre for Jawaharlal Nehru Studies, JMI, in collaboration with Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), Department of Teacher Training & Non-Formal Education (TT&NFE), Faculty of Education, JMI, and the Indian Association of Health, Research, and Welfare (IAHRW) with CRE status by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

The valedictory session brought together academicians and professionals to reflect on the learning and insights generated. Prof. Jessey Abraham, Professor and former Head & Dean, Faculty of Education, JMI, was the Chief Guest and delivered the valedictory address. Tanuja, Dean, Academic Affairs and Officiating Director, CSSI, JMI, was the Guest of Honour and delivered the concluding address. Bharti Sharma, Hony. Director, Centre for Jawaharlal Nehru Studies, whose welcome address set the tone for the programme. Bharti Sharma, Department of TT & NFE, IASE, JMI highlighted the significance of strengthening professional understanding of childhood trauma and rehabilitation practices. This was followed by an address by Prof. Farah Javed Farooqui, Department of TT & NFE, IASE, JMI, who emphasised the need for greater awareness regarding childhood trauma and reflected on the legacy and vision of the institute. Zubair Meenai, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Professor, Department of Social Work, JMI discussed in his keynote address how childhood trauma can manifest in physical and psychological health concerns and may have intergenerational effects. He emphasised the roles of parents, caregivers, family members, clinicians, schools and psychologists in identifying trauma and developing concrete, coordinated responses. He particularly stressed that healing requires strengthening the relationship between those who have experienced trauma and the systems and people involved in their care. Download the TOI App.
