New Delhi: University of Delhi student Ashima Ahlawat has won a silver medal in the women’s trap shooting team event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, bringing home a major international sporting achievement on her Asian Games debut.
She had also won an individual silver at the tournament.
Speaking to TOI , Ahlawat said the medal is special as it marks her debut at the games. She has raised me as a single parent since I was seven, and I dedicate a large part of this journey to her,” she said. Her achievement had brought prestige to both the country and the university, Singh said. Anil Kumar Kalkal, director of physical education and sports at DU, said Ahlawat had also been part of the university’s gold-winning women’s trap team at the All India Inter-University Shooting Tournament held at GNDU, Amritsar, in April.
Ahlawat, who is pursuing an MA at Delhi School of Economics, secured the silver alongside teammates Neeru Dhanda and Manisha Keer. “This was my debut at the Asian Games, so winning a silver medal is a very special and proud moment for me. My college has been extremely supportive throughout, accommodating my exams and giving me the flexibility to manage my academic schedule alongside shooting. My mother has been my biggest source of support. DU vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh congratulated Ahlawat.
