In Delhi, more than 47 lakh names were deleted during the SIR, while another 33 lakh people received notices seeking explanations for alleged “logical discrepancies” in records. Protesters in Delhi demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar amid a row over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.


Neha Bora said the agitation would continue and urged people to gather at Jantar Mantar at 1pm Saturday. A PhD student said police detained Bora and attempted to take her away in a bus, but protesters blocked the vehicle and forced her release, with the episode reportedly repeating twice. He announced that a “Jantar Mantar 2.0” protest could be held on October 10 if the demand was not met.
Despite multiple detentions, a small group of students gathered near Tolstoy Marg later in the afternoon. AISA members accused authorities of trying to prevent the protest from growing. AISA national president Neha Bora reached Jantar Mantar around noon, triggering a cat-and-mouse situation between police and protesters. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke warned that a failure to resign would lead to a larger mobilisation, saying Gen Z protesters from across the country could travel to Delhi.
Nearly 10,000 people gathered at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park for the Cockroach Janta Party protest demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar. Mumbai Police’s special branch estimated the crowd at 9,000 to 10,000 around 4pm, while police deployed heavy security and barricades around the venue to manage movement. A group of around 100 BJP supporters organised a counter-rally near Mantralaya as the CJP demonstration continued at Shivaji Park.
Some residents also raised concerns about noise and disruption to daily life, while lyricist Javed Akhtar said on X that he was glad residents had voiced their objections.
