TOI on July 26 reported that around 20% of the registered voters were not found at their addresses during the door to door verification, and on August 18 it reported that nearly one in three voters of Delhi were likely to be struck off the draft electoral roll. Election Commission figures as on August 31 show that 67.2% of Delhi’s 1,45,10,299 (around 97.5 lakh) registered voters were verified. Voters whose names are missing from the draft roll will be able to file claims and objections between Aug 31 and Sept 30. Once the details are found to be in order, the voters’ names will be included in the final SIR electoral roll, scheduled to be published on Nov 4.
Because they failed to submit their voter details during the one and a half month long voters verification exercise conducted across 70 assembly constituencies of the capital, the draft rolls include the names of 97,53,577 voters while names of 47,56,722 among 1.45 crore registered voters are missing from the SIR rolls.
Election officials said many voters were not found at their registered addresses, while others had shifted within Delhi or moved out of the city. The remaining 47.5 lakh voters were marked “uncollectable” and categorised as ASDDO voters. During this period, officials will closely examine the claims for inclusion in the electoral roll, while booth-level officers (BLOs) will conduct field visits to verify them.
