The National Human Rights Commission issued notices to police commissioners regarding Delhi bus gang rape case
NEW DELHI: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has stepped into the alleged gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl on a moving bus, issuing notices to the police commissioners of Delhi and Gautam Buddh Nagar and seeking a detailed report within two weeks on the investigation and any compensation provided to the victim. The accused, identified as bus driver Kuldeep, 39, and conductor Sandeep, 26, both from Kanpur, were arrested from a parking lot in Timarpur within hours of Delhi Police registering an FIR at Kashmere Gate police station. “Therefore, it has issued notices to the police commissioners of Delhi and Gautam Buddha Nagar and Mainpuri’s superintendent of police, calling for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.
The rights panel took suo motu cognisance of a media report about the incident, in which the girl was allegedly raped by the bus driver and conductor before being abandoned near Kashmere Gate in north Delhi.
The report is expected to include the status of the investigation and compensation, if any, paid to the victim,” the NHRC said. The NHRC’s notices have sought details of the ongoing investigation as well as information on compensation, if any, provided to the victim.
