NEW DELHI: Several schools and colleges in Delhi have shifted classes online, rescheduled parent-teacher meetings and postponed examinations scheduled for October 10 amid security concerns and anticipated disruption of metro services ahead of a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar. The Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology in Rohini has also postponed its mid-term examinations scheduled for Saturday to October 12 following a communication from Delhi Police regarding anticipated metro restrictions. Delhi Police had requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to close entry and exit gates at 57 metro stations from 9pm on Friday until further notice, citing the proposed protest at Jantar Mantar and the possibility of unruly movement towards sensitive locations. Meanwhile, Indian Railways has cancelled all Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4am and 2pm on October 10, citing concerns that severe road traffic congestion around the two stations could leave passengers struggling to find taxis and other transport to reach their final destinations.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya on Kasturba Gandhi Marg said sports day practice and enrichment classes for students of Classes 9 to 12 scheduled for Saturday had been cancelled due to the proposed protest at Jantar Mantar and concerns over students’ safety.

In a notice, the college said the decision was taken in accordance with directions from the dean of the University School of Information, Communication and Technology (USICT), Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), and the Joint Commissioner of Police, Transport Range, Delhi. Railway sources said the decision was taken specifically for trains bound for New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin, as anticipated traffic congestion could cause considerable inconvenience to arriving passengers trying to arrange onward transport.
