A recent report, which was prepared after inspection in 12 municipal zones, revealed norm violations in operation of effluent treatment plants, obtaining consent to operate and use of soaps and detergents.
Action against the remaining non-compliant facilities is planned over the next few days in coordination with police and the administration,” said an MCD official. During a review meeting chaired by municipal commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, directions were issued to immediately shut down all unauthorised dhobi ghats and ensure compliance with DPCC standards at all authorised facilities. Khirwar emphasised that protecting Yamuna from pollution was a key priority. “Three unauthorised dhobi ghats have so far been sealed in Old Delhi zone.
“Show-cause and compliance notices have been issued to all the defaulting dhobi ghats, warning of statutory action, including sealing, in case of violations. The process of disconnecting electricity and water connections of establishments violating the prescribed norms has also been initiated, and BSES and Delhi Jal Board have been informed accordingly,” the official added.
