The advisory said climatic conditions during monsoon and post-monsoon periods are conducive to mosquito breeding and increase the risk of vector-borne diseases. If stagnant water is found, a small quantity of oil should be added to it, the advisory said. It noted that transmission of these diseases has already begun and that task forces comprising various stakeholders have been constituted across zones to undertake and monitor preventive measures. Schools have been asked to designate nodal teachers or supervisory staff to oversee vector-borne disease prevention activities and coordinate with malaria field staff and other school personnel. The civic body has also directed schools to spread awareness about dengue, malaria and chikungunya through both online and offline classes. The advisory warned schools against allowing stagnant water to accumulate on their premises. To strengthen awareness among students, schools have been asked to organise quizzes, drawing competitions and rallies focusing on the prevention and control of dengue, malaria and chikungunya. Students have also been advised to wear full-sleeved uniforms during the transmission season, identified in the advisory as Aug to Nov. It also recommends using mosquito repellents and installing wire mesh on doors and windows at home to prevent mosquito bites. Download the TOI App.
