Hyderabad : A suspected drowning in a village pond turned out to be a planned murder, with a man’s wife and her two alleged lovers arrested for conspiring to kill him in Kamareddy district. The accused allegedly strangled him with a rope and dumped his body in the pond to make it appear as an accidental death.
The victim, Gummadi Kashiram (26), a resident of Hanmajipet village in Banswada mandal, was found dead under suspicious circumstances recently, according to Banswada DSP B Vittal Reddy. His father, Bhumayya, lodged a complaint with the police on Oct 23, stating that his son had fallen into a pond and died.
Kashiram had been objecting to the relationships, which allegedly led the trio to conspire to eliminate him, according to police. Police took the suspects into custody and questioned them, during which Ramu and Santosh allegedly confessed to their involvement in the murder, the DSP said. Investigators questioned several people and gathered technical evidence as well as information from locals. During the probe, police found that Kashiram’s wife, Savitha, was allegedly involved in extramarital relationships with two men from the same village, Chintakinda Ramu and Pasupula Santosh. As part of the plan, Ramu and Santosh allegedly took Kashiram to a pond bund on the outskirts of the village after making him consume alcohol. Savitha was also arrested for her alleged role in the conspiracy. All three accused, Ramu, Santosh and Savitha, were arrested and remanded to judicial custody, the DSP added.
A postmortem examination subsequently confirmed that he had been murdered, prompting police to intensify the investigation. However, police noticed injury marks on Kashiram’s neck and registered a case of suspicious death.
