The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hyderabad: Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday called upon Congress leaders and workers to work collectively to ensure a comfortable win for Congress candidate Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy in the Khammam–Nalgonda–Warangal Graduates’ MLC election.

Bhatti said the govt was working towards launching the Indiramma Bima scheme on Nov 19, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi . Under the proposed scheme, families would receive insurance assistance of ₹5 lakh if their primary breadwinner died in an accident. Describing Khammam district as a Congress stronghold, Bhatti urged party workers to maintain their unity and ensure that Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy won the election with a substantial majority. Describing Khammam district as a strong base for the Congress party , the deputy CM called upon party workers to demonstrate the same unity in the Graduates’ MLC election and ensure that Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy won with an overwhelming majority.

The objective was to provide financial security to families across Telangana without discrimination based on caste, religion or region, he said. He urged party cadre to take up the graduates’ voter registration drive as a movement and ensure that every eligible graduate is enrolled as a voter. He was speaking as the chief guest at a meeting organised by the Khammam District Congress Committee in Khammam. He urged leaders to first identify eligible graduates in Congress-supporting families and then reach out to neutral voters and those favourably inclined towards the govt’s welfare schemes. He also asked party leaders to publicise the benefits of the state’s welfare schemes in every household and distribute pamphlets explaining them. He also noted that the candidate’s family had a long association with the Congress.

Bhatti pointed out that even graduates who had registered previously would have to enrol again under the current election process.
