Hyderabad: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials have seized four elephant tusks weighing about 17 kg and apprehended three persons allegedly involved in their illegal sale. The four ivory articles were seized under the relevant provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
Trade in or dealing with ivory and articles made from it is prohibited under the Act, the DRI said in an official statement. The DRI has been actively combating wildlife crime across the country through intelligence-based operations targeting the illegal trafficking and trade of wildlife, wildlife trophies and articles derived from protected species. Acting on specific intelligence, a DRI team laid a trap in Jubilee Hills and intercepted the three persons while a sale transaction involving the tusks and intricately carved ivory articles (trophies) was underway on Thursday.
