Hyderabad : A two-year-old girl died after allegedly consuming cyanide kept within her reach outside a jewellery store in Chintal, prompting police to register a negligence case against the shop owner and an employee after relatives complained about the handling of hazardous chemicals.
The incident occurred on Oct 7, but came to light only on Saturday when the child’s relatives staged a protest outside the jewellery store and approached the police, alleging that negligence by the shop management led to the tragedy.
They buried her on Oct 8 in Madhira,” the inspector said. Due to pain, she started crying and her mother immediately took away the pouch,” Jeedimetla detective inspector Ch Dhanunjaya said. “Girl’s aunt Sunitha lodged a complaint alleging that Misha died due to the negligence of the jewellery shop owner and the staff. We registered a case under Section 106 (1) (causing death due to negligence) of the BNS against shop owner Vishnu and Venkatachary,” the inspector said.

The girl picked up the cyanide pouch, brought it into the shop, and kept the chemical in her mouth. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital by her mother and the shopkeeper. “The girl was declared dead at the hospital. By then, her father also arrived there. Parents took the girl away saying that they would go to another hospital. Instead of reporting to police, the parents took her body to their native place, Madhira. Download the TOI App.
