Hyderabad: The BJP on Sunday threatened to lay siege to the assembly with thousands of students and party workers on Monday after police denied permission for a proposed student protest at Dharna Chowk over ₹15,000 crore in pending fee reimbursement and scholarships.
Addressing a press conference, BJP state general secretary N Goutham Rao said police had denied permission for the ‘Fee Dues BJP Ladayi’ protest organised by BJYM at Dharna Chowk at the last minute, despite an application being submitted five days earlier.
He said BJP and BJYM workers, along with students from across the state, would reach assembly by 10 am on Monday if permission was not granted. Because of pending fee reimbursements and appealed to them to join Monday’s protest at the assembly, party leaders said lakhs of students and their parents were suffering.
He said the BJP had collected representations and signatures from around five lakh students as part of its campaign. He alleged that the Congress govt was following a policy of suppressing the opposition through preventive arrests and restrictions on protests. BJYM state president Ganesh Kundan alleged that the govt was failing to address students’ fee reimbursement and scholarship issues.
