Liquor trader held for brandishing unlicenced revolver at bar
Hyderabad : A 24-year-old liquor businessman was arrested under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act after he allegedly brandished an unlicenced country-made revolver at bouncers and customers at a bar and restaurant in Somajiguda in the early hours of Saturday, threatening to shoot them unless his bill amount was refunded. Police registered a case under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, which deal with offences involving the unauthorised possession and use of firearms.
He was subsequently taken into custody and sent to Chanchalguda Central Jail, police said. The incident triggered panic, with customers and staff screaming and attempting to flee, according to the complainant. Punjagutta police said Shanawaz had acquired the firearm from an arms store in Lakdikapul but did not possess a valid licence for it.
The accused, Mohammed Shanawaz, a resident of Owaisi Colony in Hyderabad, was allegedly in an inebriated state when he took out the firearm from his Mahindra Thar parked in the cellar of Head Quarters Bar & Restaurant and attempted to re-enter the premises following an argument with other customers. On being informed, police arrived and apprehended Shanawaz, recovering the revolver from his possession. He was brought to the police station along with his vehicle. Further details regarding the procurement of the firearm are being examined. The accused was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
