In a letter to the CM, Owaisi stated that the Mamnoor airport was built in the 1930s under the rule of the Nizams for the benefit of the paper industry in Warangal. In this regard, I request that the airport be named Maulvi Syed Alauddin Airport, in honour of one of the prominent freedom fighters from the undivided Warangal district who was associated with Hyderabad’s resistance to British rule during the 1857 uprising,” Owaisi said. Owaisi’s suggestion came days after the CM sought suggestions from the public on a name for the airport. “I welcome your recent invitation to the people of Telangana to suggest a suitable name for the airport. Naming the airport after Alauddin would be a fitting tribute to his courage and sacrifice, he added.
