The high court order has paved the way for him to continue at the helm of India’s flagship supersonic missile programme. With this, the court disposed of two petitions filed by the Union govt and Joshi challenging the CAT order. The full order is yet to be made public.
Following extensive hearings involving the defence ministry, Joshi and senior scientist Sivasubramaniam Nambi Naidu, who had challenged Joshi’s appointment before the CAT, a bench comprising Justices P Sam Koshy and Narsing Rao Nandikonda passed final orders in the open court quashing the tribunal’s decision. Counsel for Nambi Naidu argued that he was the senior-most eligible candidate, had been promoted as a distinguished scientist before the vacancy reference date and possessed an impeccable service record, including Prime Minister’s medals and several other awards.
