Kolkata : A minor girl from Baguiati has alleged that she was raped by a youth at a hotel in Hooghly district after being taken there by a female friend, prompting Baguiati police to register a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act on Tuesday.
Police said preliminary investigation had raised several questions. Investigators said the delay could complicate the collection of forensic evidence if other guests had subsequently used the room. A Bidhannagar police officer said the allegations were being investigated and all aspects of the case were being examined.
The girl allegedly broke down after the incident, following which her family decided to approach the police. CCTV footage from the hotel showed the two girls and two men at the reception, with the men seated and signing documents. Investigators suspect that the documents submitted at the hotel were fake. Police are also examining the delay in filing the complaint, which came three days after the alleged incident.
The girl visited a hotel in Sugandha, near Chinsurah, on Saturday with her friend and two young men, all known to one another, according to police sources. They returned home on Sunday. The complaint was lodged at Baguiati police station on Tuesday afternoon.
