BJP denied the allegations and blamed CPM members for the disturbance. Kharagpur: CPM on Monday accused BJP supporters of attacking and setting fire to its party office during a rally at Chandrakona Road, and disrupting another programme at Madpur in Kharagpur Rural.
Ghosh said setting fire to the party office would achieve nothing as CPM had completed its rally and would take necessary action. BJP Jhargram organisational district general secretary Gautam Kauri said CPM members had created the disturbance after their rally. CPM alleged that several BJP supporters carrying party flags attacked its office soon after the rally began, vandalised it and burnt items taken from the premises. A large police contingent from Garbeta police station reached the spot. CPM district secretary Bijoy Pal, former district secretary and former minister Sushanta Ghosh, state neta Shatarup Ghosh and other district netas participated in the procession. He also referred to Suvendu Adhikari and the Sarada and Narada cases while criticising the alleged attack. He claimed cooking was under way inside the party office and the fire might have originated there. He denied BJP’s involvement and accused CPM of seeking to implicate the party.
