Today, instead of vacating the campus, unrest broke out after 2 pm, forcing me to remain on campus till 5 pm.
Asique Iqbal, a final-year student, said, “The new GB president also agreed that political activities should not be permitted on the campus. Vice-principal Nayna Chatterjee said, “We have clearly stated that no political activities will be entertained on college premises, but students have been violating this instruction for the past few days. The college had organised a felicitation event for the newly appointed governing body president, advocate Swapan Das , but unrest, including hurling of eggs, broke out as he was leaving. However, when we tried to hoist the National Flag, we were threatened by individuals claiming to be ABVP supporters. They called in outsiders who attacked students and threw eggs at them. We have urged the higher education dept to appoint a permanent principal, as we are facing a staff shortage. The college is currently functioning with only three CCTV cameras, one of which is damaged. I had no choice but to call cops. After taking charge, Das discussed infrastructure and operational issues with teachers and college staff, during which several campus concerns were raised.
