Eye Within Art’s second online auction, The Autumn Palette, features rare works by Indian modern and contemporary masters including Jamini Roy, Sunil Das, Ganesh Pyne and Lalu Prasad Shaw
KOLKATA: A city-based art auction house will open its second online art auction, The Autumn Palette, from Sept 21 to 23, bringing together rare and authenticated original works by some of India’s most celebrated modern and contemporary masters. Among the key artists featured are Jamini Roy, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Ganesh Pyne and Sanjay Bhattacharya, each representing a distinct visual language within India’s artistic legacy,” said Gautam Das, director of Eye Within Art that was established in 1999 and is among India’s oldest e-commerce art platforms. Among the works on offer is red pastel horse by expression artist Sunil Das, created in 1959, shortly after he graduated from the Government College of Art & Craft. There is an original print of English landscape artist Thomas Daniell who spent seven years in India after arriving in Kolkata in 1786.

Ganesh Pyne’s depiction of a Baul singer in tempera reflects the mystic, wandering troubadours of Bengal. Also on offer are works of Prakash Karmakar and Dhirendranath Brahma in addition to those by Lalu Prasad Shaw and Sanjay Bhattacharya. “For experienced patrons, the auction offers access to masters like Jamini Roy whose contributions have shaped India’s modern and contemporary art narrative.
