Kolkata: The state health department has asked the licensing authority for clinical establishments to ensure proper verification of documents before employing doctors. The move follows a crackdown on fake doctors.

“No person whose registration and eligibility to practise medicine have not been duly verified should be permitted to function as a medical practitioner or to prescribe any medicine or procedure,” the order said. “We welcome the order,” said Rajiv Pandey of the Association of Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes. Private hospitals have been asked to report doubts about a doctor’s identity, qualification or registration to the state medical council. Download the TOI App.
