Kolkata: A domestic help (ayah) was arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting the 81-year-old mother-in-law of a Calcutta HC judge at a residential complex under Survey Park PS, police said.
As her condition worsened, her family hired Roy as a full-time domestic help in 2025 to look after her.
Police said Dasgupta had been unwell for a long time and suffered from fading memory. The accused, Rina Roy of Tiljala, allegedly assaulted Shubhra Dasgupta, leaving her injured. Survey Park police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by the woman’s daughter.
She took her to a hospital, where doctors told the family that the injuries appeared to have been caused by assault. The family also kept a close watch on Dasgupta through CCTV cameras installed at the residence. The family suspected that the domestic help had assaulted the elderly woman after Roy’s conflicting responses.
Earlier this month, Dasgupta’s daughter visited the Survey Park residence and noticed several injury marks on her mother’s body. A Zero FIR was first lodged at Garfa PS on Thursday.
